Wild Turkeys at Musqua Meadows

Crocus Grove to Musqua Meadows

This leg is a quick 2 hour jaunt down MB-12 to Musqua Meadows, an AANR/FCN nudist resort and my next stop.

ROAD REPORT: My route took me east from Crocus Grove on MB- 317 to MB-12, down 12 to a quick 9 km jog west on MB-44 to rejoin 12 south, south on MB-302 and east on MB-201 and Musqua Meadows. All the roads were 2 lanes or 4 lane (some divided) and in good shape except for the occasional construction zone. They have a different way to “chip seal” a road here. They lay down the oil and gravel, put up signs “Warning – windshield damage hazard! Slow to 40 km when meeting oncoming traffic”, and let the traffic compress the oil and gravel. I guess it saves on roller equipment and operators.

RV PARK REPORT: Musqua Meadows is a nudist stop so the report is on the AANR page.

While here I slipped across the border to Roseau, MN to do a little shopping and see if I could get on the internet using my AirCard. I got the shopping done and had lunch but no luck on the internet. My AirCard gave me an error message, “This card has been disabled – contact your card provider” I figured that it’s because I told them to turn it off while I’m in Canada and later told them to turn it back on. I’m guessing that they never got it turned back on. But that doesn’t explain why I’ve been billed for it every month! When I tried to call Verizon I got stuck on hold for over 30 minutes (all the way through lunch) so I gave up and came back to the park.

On the way down to the U.S. I had a long conversation with the U.S. Border Guard about RVing. He spotted my Brake Buddy in the front passenger seat and that set us off. We must have talked for 15 minutes! Luckally I was their only customer the whole time. On the way back the Canadian Border Guard decided to check me out and found a DWI from 1973 in Denver that I had forgotten all about. She said not to worry about it because it was so long ago that it didn't count for Canadian access, just to mention it if I was asked about any arrests in the future.

We were supposed to have a kite flying weekend but the weather didn’t cooperate. That brings me to the …

WEATHER REPORT: The day of my arrival was beautiful, clear, upper 20’s and a nice breeze, but it turned to crap over the weekend; Rain and upper teens with no breeze. That carried over into Monday

Even though there were only 5 people in the park, we had the Saturday potluck anyway. The park supplied the pot roast, gravy, and potatos and we brought side dishes, we had string beans, corn, and greek pasta salad (mine). Everything was great except, even though I only had small portions of potatos and pasta, my blood sugar was elevated to 210 two hours afterwards! It's been so long since I've had either I'd forgotten just how bad they affect me.

This was a "kick-back" stop. The only pictures I took were of a couple of wild turkeys that wandered through the camp (see above).

Next stop, Fort Francis, Ontario.
